The Blue Angel cargo bike – filled with environmentally friendly products – had just spent the summer touring around Germany’s music festivals. As part of the sustainability weeks at the toom DIY stores in autumn 2024, its ample storage space was used to showcase the range of environmentally friendly DIY and renovation materials on sale at this nationwide DIY store. All of the DIY and renovation materials presented to customers were of course certified with the ecolabel from the German federal government. The Blue Angel not only raised awareness using highly visible product displays and promotional campaigns, such as the prize wheel or a craft table for young DIY fans, but was also present on toom’s digital channels.
Our cargo bike at toom: filled with products for environmentally friendly DIY enthusiasts
Autumn is a popular time for DIY projects
The start of the autumn season is traditionally a time when the focus of most DIY activities and projects switches from the balcony and garden to inside the home. And this is why furniture, wall and floor surfaces that emit as little pollutants as possible become even more important at this time of year. The aim of this cooperation between the Blue Angel ecolabel and toom DIY stores is to encourage customers to find out more about the potential environmental impact of products before starting their painting or wallpapering project. For example, low-emission interior wall paints certified with the Blue Angel not only give your walls a fresh new look. The ecolabel from the German federal government places strict limits on the use of volatile and semi-volatile organic substances and also bans the use of biocides, lead-based pigments and perfluorinated and polyfluorinated chemicals in the certified products. Low-emission interior wall paints with the Blue Angel do not contain any softening agents that are harmful to health and are also free of carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic substances.
René Haßfeld, CEO of toom, was delighted with the cooperation with the Blue Angel even before the promotional day and expressed his wishes for his customer’s upcoming DIY projects: “It is fantastic that we are able to work with such a strong partner and we wish all of our DIY enthusiasts lots of success with their projects!!!”

toom DIY stores have been campaigning for healthier homes for many years. Clean air and low-pollutant materials play an especially important role in this respect. The Blue Angel ecolabel – which can not only be found on wall paints, lacquers and floor coverings but also on 40,000 other products – has stood for environmentally conscious consumption since 1978. As the world's first and Germany’s best known environmental label, it identifies those products and services that have been shown to have less negative impact on the climate, soil, water, air and resources.
