Twice a year, Neonyt is the meeting place for sustainable actors from the fashion industry. The motto "Change. Fashion. Together" brings together designers, manufacturers and interested individuals from the textile and fashion industry to exchange best practices that will make the industry more transparent and, above all, more sustainable in the long term. Despite the negative effects of textile production on the environment and workers, "fast fashion" is still the guiding principle of this industry.
Making the textile and fashion industry more sustainable is also a concern of the Blue Angel eco-label. When certifying textile products, the eco-label therefore pays attention to both environmental and social aspects. Various natural fibres, for instance, must come from organic cultivation or organic livestock farming, and chemicals used must be tested for harmful substances and be harmless to health. In addition, the textiles must meet various durability requirements so that they can be worn for a long time.
For the Blue Angel, Neonyt is therefore the perfect opportunity to present the eco-label for textiles and to celebrate products that have already been certified. In the run-up to the trade fair, the Blue Angel, together with Fair Wear, Grüner Knopf, bluesign technologies ag and OEKO-TEX®, will therefore be taking part in a label talk to present itself and the requirements for textiles behind it in detail. Dr Kristin Stechemesser will represent the Blue Angel in the talk on 15 December 2022, which will be streamed via YouTube and Instagram.
About the Blue Angel
The Blue Angel has been the ecolabel of the German federal government for more than 40 years and the guide for sustainable purchasing. It is an independent and credible label that sets stringent standards for environmentally friendly products and services. The Blue Angel guarantees that the products or services it certifies meet high standards when it comes to its environmental, health and performance characteristics. The whole life cycle of the product or service is always taken into account in the assessment process. Criteria are developed for each product group and must be complied with by those products and services holding the Blue Angel. In order to reflect any technological developments, the German Environment Agency checks the criteria every three to four years. This ensures that companies are required to make their products even more environmentally friendly over time.
