Land use for gravel mining can be significantly reduced if recycled concrete is used. The Blue Angel for environmentally friendly concrete products is awarded to products that contain a high proportion of recycled materials and are safe from an ecotoxicological perspective. Cement production makes a significant contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, concrete products with the Blue Angel are obligated to offset their non-avoidable and non-reducible greenhouse gas emissions. To ensure that this process is transparent for consumers, the offset global warming potential of the concrete products in kg of CO2 equivalents per m2 is also stated on the packaging. The methods used to offset emissions are subject to strict rules so that they enable successful climate protection measures in the long term.
